چکیده

Lattice relaxations, surface phonon spectra, surface energies, and work functions are calculated for Rh(100) and Rh(110) surfaces using density-functional theory and the fullpotential linearized augmented plane wave method. Both, the local-density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation to the exchange-correlation functional are considered. The force constants are obtained from the directly calculated atomic forces, and the temperature dependence of the surface relaxation is evaluated by minimizing the free energy of the system. The anharmonicity of the atomic vibrations is taken into account within the quasiharmonic approximation. The importance of contributions from different phonons to the surface relaxation is analyzed.

ساختار الکترونی ترکیبات فرمیون سنگین M = Co, Rh) PuMGa5 )

Electronic properties of heavy Fermion superconductors PuCoGa5 and PuRhGa5 consisting of density of states, band structure and the Fermi surface have been calculated based on density functional theory in the local spin density approximation plus on site Coulomb correlation (LSDA+U). Calculated density of states is in overall consistency with a photo emission experiment. The bands with f charac...

Molecular dynamics simulation of a binary mixture lubricant for use in hard disk interfaces

In Hard Disk Drives (HDD), it is necessary to decrease the Flying Height (FH) between the head and the disk (currently, FH is around 3-5 nm) so as to increase recording densities. Retaining the solid lubricant has become a difficult proposition owing to intermittent contact between the surfaces. ZTMD and Z are used as solid lubricant to lubricate these interfaces. In this paper, the behavior of...

Trends in the chemical reactivity of surfaces studied by ab initio quantum-dynamics calculations

Trends in the chemical reactivity of transition-metal surfaces have been studied at the example of the dissociative adsorption of hydrogen on the ~100! surfaces of Rh, Pd, and Ag. Detailed calculations of the six-dimensional potential-energy surfaces have been performed using density-functional theory. The adsorption dynamics has been investigated by solving the time-independent Schrödinger equ...

Dynamics of Macro–Nano Mechanical Systems; Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method

The continuum based approaches don’t provide the correct physics in atomic scales. On the other hand, the molecular based approaches are limited by the length and simulated process time. As an attractive alternative, this paper proposes the Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method (FIMM) for computationally and mathematically efficient modeling of solid structures. The approach is applicable to mult...
